PATRICK Autocare is reported to have proposed to construct a $10 million pre-delivery inspection and car storage facility at the Kembla Grange, near Port Kembla.
According to GAC World, a development application has been lodged and, if approved, the facility would store 4,000 vehicles arriving at the port. Most cars would be stored for up to three weeks, giving the site an annual capacity for about 70,000 vehicles.
The facility would be built in three stages including:
- The first stage would be to construct six hectares of storage pavements, administration building, fencing, security and surveillance systems, lighting and landscaping
- The 2nd stage would be for a processing building and additional pavement areas; and
- The 3rd stage would be hail-proof mesh over the pavements.
According to Patrick Autocare, the proposed development would include rail access that would be the major benefit of the facility. The rail access would be used to transport imported vehicles between the port and the Kembla Grange storage facility and the NSW car market.
