AUSTRALIAN submarine and shipbuilder ASC has congratulated the South Australian Government on the official opening of the Techport Australia Common User Facility (CUF) at Osborne, South Australia.

ASC managing director and CEO, Steve Ludlam says the CUF is critical to the company’s role as shipbuilder for the Air Warfare Destroyer Project.

“The Common User Facility supports ASC.s state-of-the-art $120 million shipyard and will quite literally do a lot of the heavy lifting for the project,” he says.

“Together these two facilities form one of the most modern naval shipbuilding precincts in the world, ensuring that we are on track as a partner in the AWD Alliance - to deliver the AWDs to the Royal Australian Navy.”

The CUF is part of the state government’s $300 million investment in the Techport Australia precinct and includes Australia’s largest ship lift.

“ASC thanks the South Australian government for its ongoing commitment to support not only the AWD Project, but also the State.s broader defence industry,” Ludlam says

“These world-class common user shipbuilding facilities will ensure that ASC can continue to provide to the frontline of Australia’s naval defence force.”
