Dudgeon earmarked for coal port plan

Dudgeon earmarked for coal port plan

INTEREST has been expressed in developing Dudgeon Point, south of Mackay, into a coal port capable of handling up to 120 million tonnes of coal annually.

The State Government owned North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation (NQBP) seeks expressions of interest for the site from private companies, which would wholly fund not only the possibilities for the site as well as the construction and running of the port.

According to NQBP, the 1400 hectare site could potentially cater for coal infrastructure up to 120 million tonnes.

NQBP added that if approvals went quickly, the first stage of the port could be operating in five years.
