Hunter exports could be affected by Port congestion

HUNTER Valley businesses are worried that congestion at Port Botany in Sydney is impacting on their export profitability.

Problems with the transfer of freight in and out of the Hunter region were raised yesterday at a meeting of the Freight and Logistics Council of New South Wales.

Hunter Business Chamber CEO Peter Shinnick said infrastructure around the port needs to be improved.

Shinnick said Hunter businesses have issues regarding the transport of their product to the port, but also the cost of getting it there.

He said most of the supply lines in and out of the country, with the various shipping lines, come through Botany.
