Skelton Sherborne Shipping Index shows machine number increase

THE SKELTON Sherborne Shipping Index for September 2009 shows machine numbers have increased for the first time this year.

The Skelton Sherborne Shipping Index measures imports activity for heavy machines in industries like construction and mining.

Skelton Sherborne says its latest report shows the total number of machines imported in September was 1299, a 44% increase from August 2009.

According to Skelton Sherborne, the FOB value of imported equipment rose from $132m in August to $180m in September.

The report shows the average value per machine decreased by $8,000.
