Too many trucks at Port Botany, Greens unimpressed

THE PASSING of a compulsory environmental audit carried out on Port Botany has been met with backlash from the Greens, who say the port cannot be ‘environmentally friendly’ until it slashes the number of trucks servicing the facility.

New South Wales Minister for Ports Joe Tripodi said the port exceeded all compliance requirements for a raft of environmental management issues.

But the Greens argue the combination of ongoing dredging and large truck loads the port has not addressed all important issues pertaining to environmental sustainability.

Greens Port Spokesperson Lee Rhiannon said Tripodi did not address the impact that increased truck movements as a result of port expansion would have on the environment.
