THE NEW South Wales Budget will fund ongoing expansion work at Port Botany and construction of a new off-port rail hub at Enfield.
More than $262 million has been allocated to the port in order to continue works on a new 60 hectare expansion of container terminals.
The government has announced a further $15 million will be invested in a second bulk liquids berth.
Ports and Waterways Minister Joe Tripodi said the $52.7 million bulk liquids berth will be essential in protecting the State’s energy security.
He added the Sydney Ports Corporation continues to invest in port infrastructure to ensure NSW is well positioned when the global economy emerges from the current economic downturn.
The Enfield intermodal logistics facility will serve as a rail hub to move containers off port while cutting down on truck movements.
The Government has allocated just over $72 million for this project, which is expected to start construction later this year.
Meanwhile, $20 million will be spent to improve coal loading efficiency at the Port of Newcastle, while just over $10 million has been allocated for upgrading the former iron ore berth at Mayfield for general cargo and other trade.
