THE US Navy has recognised a Mackay police officer for his efforts in ensuring the security of one of its vessels during a visit to the area, says ABC News.

ABC News reported Sergeant John Tantalo received a letter of appreciation from the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) for maintaining high levels of security at Mackay Port in July when the USS Mustin arrived for a joint training exercise at Shoalwater Bay.

"The main thing is meeting the very high standards that the US naval security require, but we got everything in place and I think the recognition is good because it shows that we met their standard, which I feel good about," Sergeant Tantalo told ABC News.
