HAMBURG Sud has christened a container ship in Chile for the first time in its 137-year history.

The ‘Cap Graham’ was named in a ceremony in Valparaiso on 9 January 2009.

The ship is one of three identical 4,294 TEU charter vessels from Norddeutsche Reederei H. Schuldt.

The ‘Cap Graham’ and her two sister ships, the ‘Cap Gilbert’ and ‘Cap Gregory’ are sailing in Sling 1 of the Hamburg Sud liner service between Asia and the South American West Coast.

The 264m ship was sponsored by Elizabeth McPherson Cisternas, Corporate Executive Vice President Logistic and Marketing Services for Codelco, Chile.

The company is the largest producer and exporter of copper in the world.
